This system of self regulation through fear has been around much longer than you think. long time before Covid. I encountered it about 12 years ago. It made realize I don't have a country a Government or even a police force that have my interests at heart. The culture/system is rotten at the core and has probably been dead for decades. To be honest when I saw Hugh's talk advertised I at first thought it was about the transgender issue. I don't think venues are refusing him. They are more likely refusing the potential stress of protests and being smeared. You could easily do this by podcast online and arguably reach more people. But its a shame if the live events stop as it is Good to meet each other face to face.
I could and do share my material by other means, the key point for everyone is surely that in what we assumed was a democracy we should be able to speak in "public" to an audience which can chose whether to come or not. In such a meeting one can be asked questions and challenged. They removed free speech and the right to be challenged at least 10 or 15 years ago. They do this because they don't have a logical argument. It doesn't stand up to scrutiny. When you get down to it emotion is more powerful than logic. Control someone's emotions and you can slip in any kind of cockeyed logic. The useless idiots have had their values twisted through emotional manipulation. Emotion trumps logic that's why they are winning. The door to brain washing is through emotion.
Frankly, all really successful revolutions start in the fresh air. I am a family descendent of the Ironsides who as part of the Chartist movement, ended up winning and transforming themselves into the Labour and Co-operative movements, and on the maternal side of my family, from the Huguenots, who also achieved great things. How much of a coward do you have to be to be intimidated by people who could care less about you and are cowards themselves, and the people who are giving the talk care about you, but you help the people who do not care about you against the people who do care...
